If you fail to plan, you plan to fail – club meeting 04.02.10

In the run-up to the meeting on last Thursday 4th of February 2010 the
TM-network showed its efficiency. We discussed the role of the GE and
remembered the evaluation sheets presented by Mel some weeks ago. One
email and 10 minutes later I had the template for the evaluation and
forwarded it to Daniel, the designated GE.

The few remaining roles were quickly assigned when the meeting started
and after the warm-up the prepared speeches began.

We had the great pleasure to have a guest, Michael R., giving a
prepared speech. Michael let us participate in the difficult journey
to the Death Valley. Often tried, not yet reached. Not all obstacles
can be overcome by planning.

Ark researched the evidence for Google’s slogan “Don’t be evil” and
concluded that indeed Google follows its slogan. Christian made a
point of a healthy risk and fun balance. There is not much point in
playing it safe and dying of being bored! Thomas finally hit the same
nail with pointing out our exposure to conditioning by media and other
sources. In the table topic session Annette stretched the imagination
of four speakers.

To me it was an evening that lived from trust and participation – as
every evening. E.g. I massively relied on Mustafa as timer and
received all the signals that I needed. Being the Toastmaster of the
evening added another perspective on the club evening – that of
planning and implementation.

Thank you all for your support in all the various roles, from GE over
timer to speaker and listener.

Looking forward to the next meeting, Carsten
