In spite of the summer heat we had a full agenda and an inspiring meeting last Thursday with four fully prepared and excellently presented speeches. Pursuant to our motto all speakers where working hard to “push their own personal limits” a little bit further. As you might know, we can never delete our limits. We can only push them a little bit further, creating a new circle in which we will have to live till we go and push again.
With his tip of the evening Ark invited us to visit the largest oil refinery of Europe and Christian Block’s joke confronted us with a situation you don’t want to experience while visiting your GP (general practitioner = Hausarzt). The word of the evening was “migration” (by Thomas) and all speakers where trying to include this word while migrating out of their comfort zone into their learning zone.
Both Jannis and Jennifer presented their icebreaker speech. Thanks to both of them for letting us know what drives them, what they like and what they ponder. Ark has given us interesting insights about the consequences of a European legislation that bans the use and production of light bulbs in due course. Finally, Florian has taught us an incredible principle that, if applied correctly, will hinder us not to become angry only because somebody else is angry. We all have the freedom to chose our response to given stimuli. We don’t even have to applaud after a speech – phew! Great concept. No wonder Florian won the award for the best prepared speech.
Table topics where given by Annette who came up with a awesome idea of topics: The speakers had to comment on the wisdom they found inside Chinese fortune cookies that Annette brought along. Klaus won the award for the best presentation and Annette reaped the award for the best usage of the word of the evening as she mulled over the possibility of migrating cookies.
The best evaluation was given by Claudia who later (in the Rolands Eck) took the opportunity to polish her language skills as she conversed with two Chinese guests.
Yeah, the Rolands Eck. As usual the meeting was continued there. The time spent there is at least as important as the meeting it self (alas, it is far more expensive).
The meeting was closed round 2AM. Short night for some of us again. A price I love to pay for spending time with such an incredible gang as the Rheinredner.
Next Thursday we will playfully learn about playful learning.
Looking forward to meeting you there guys.
Cheers for now,
Thomas
